I love to share arts, crafts, DIY projects, nature activities and seasonal celebration ideas for kids (and the young at heart). We believe in the wonder of childhood, the power of imagination, learning through play, getting outside in all seasons, and co-creating a life you love--one rhythm at a time!
It's May Day this coming Thursday! May Day, also known as Beltane, is a holiday rich in tradition and rooted in agriculture. It marks the halfway point between the spring equinox and the summer solstice. The celebrations on May 1st remind us that we are all part of something larger—a living, breathing planet that continuously regenerates and inspires us to do the same. A few May Day traditions include dancing around the Maypole, delivering May Day baskets, making fresh or faux flower crafts (such as felt flower crowns), and “Bringing in the May” or gathering flower cuttings for your home. In Hawaii, May Day is Lei Day, a celebration of the beauty and spirit of aloha. It's a joyful occasion that honors Hawaiian culture. For residents, Lei Day is a vibrant reminder of the importance of friendship, community, and respect for the land. On Lei Day, people gift one another with fragrant leis made from fresh flowers and other local materials to wear. Alternatively, you can make a felt flower lei necklace to celebrate this special day. It can also be fun to make flower crafts to celebrate the height of spring, such as these fingerpint flower magnets, in preparation for Mother's Day. It's always nice to accomplish two tasks at once! You can also paint a rose or create these gorgeous flower arts and crafts. To turn your flower painting into a gift for Mom, put it in an art storage picture frame. This will make it easy for her to display a section of art projects as one season changes to the next. Visit this post for more fun ways to celebrate May Day. The ideas include several other ways people around the world celebrate spring. However you choose to celebrate, I hope it brings you joy, peace, and a sense of connection with Mother Earth. Happy May Day! Enjoy the fullness of spring and the abundance it can bring! With joy,
