How many signs of summer (or winter) can you find?

Hey there,

Have you noticed any of the signs of summer (or winter) in your neck of the woods?

As one season gives way to the next, it is a great time to pay attention to your surroundings and look for the signs that summer is approaching or has arrived.

Some of the first signs that signal the arrival of the next season will differ slightly depending on where you live. Others, such as a rise in temperature in the summer or colder temperatures in the winter, are universal.

According to the Gregorian calendar, summer (or winter) won’t officially arrive until the solstice on Friday, June 20th–but you can find subtle clues that summer is not far away if you pay attention.

Use the Signs of Summer (or Winter) printable scavenger hunt to help you find different items.

The clues include summer signs you can see, hear, and smell to engage the senses and help you hone your observational skills. Some clues that summer is on the way are hard to miss, while other signs require keen eyes, ears, and noses.

As shown in the photo below, I've recently updated the printable Signs of Summer Scavenger Hunt to include a landscape version.

Alternatively, you can use this summer scavenger hunt, which includes pictures of each summer-themed item, to make it easier for toddlers, preschoolers, and kindergarteners who have not yet learned to read to join in the fun.

There is also a winter version available for those of you who live south of the equator.

Best of all, members of the Rhythms of PLAY CLUB (and those who have access to these printables) can find each of these seasonal scavenger hunt printables in their dashboard in the Rhythms of Play Learning Center. Log in and look for them in the Nature Scavenger Hunt Library!

With joy,
