I love to share arts, crafts, DIY projects, nature activities and seasonal celebration ideas for kids (and the young at heart). We believe in the wonder of childhood, the power of imagination, learning through play, getting outside in all seasons, and co-creating a life you love--one rhythm at a time!
Hey there, Although the calendar divides the year into four distinct seasons β spring, summer, fall, and winter β subtle changes in the natural world occur every day. As each day transitions into the next, these small shifts gradually prepare us for the upcoming season. Each subtle seasonal shift transitions smoothly into the next, but upon reflection, you realize how much has truly changed. As the seasons progress throughout the year, my family and I enjoy noticing the slight differences in what we see, hear, feel, and smell during our daily nature walks. Each discovery deepens our understanding of and connection to the natural world. Whether you live in the Northern Hemisphere and are experiencing the first signs of autumn appearing, or in the Southern Hemisphere where the initial signs of spring are beginning to sprout, minor changes happen moment by moment to catch your attention and hint at what's coming next. The transition from summer's warm, sunny days to the crisp, cool days of fall makes the changes in nature more noticeable than at most other times of the year. Few people miss the vibrant display of yellows, oranges, and reds bursting everywhere as the leaves change color. Several other signs also indicate that autumn is arriving, a season that will last until winter's chill replaces the variable temperatures of fall. Each day, you can see, hear, feel, smell, and even taste (pumpkin spice, anyone?) the telltale signs of fall appearing everywhere. From falling leaves and migrating birds to flannels, boots, and the cozy feeling of cashmere and a hot latte on a chilly day after a long, hot summer, the seasonal sensations and stunning autumn colors make fall a perfect time to get outside and enjoy natureβs beauty. Here's a list of signs to look for-->Signs of Fall Scavenger Hunt. For those in the Southern Hemisphere, the transition from winter to spring is more subtle than the vibrant fall colors that adorn the landscape in the Northern Hemisphere at this time of year. Still, these changes are just as noticeable as the world comes back to life after winter's grip is finally lifted. As the long, cold, dark winter days in the Southern Hemisphere give way to spring, vibrant new life begins to emerge as the increasing sunlight warms the air. Celebrate the return of daylight as you leave winter's dark days behind and welcome the first signs of spring approaching. Visit the "Signs of Spring Scavenger Hunt" and the accompanying printable I created, so you and your children (or students) can participate in the search as well. Wherever you happen to live, pay close attention to the small changes happening around you each day. What have you seen, felt, heard, smelled, tasted, sensed, or otherwise noticed? Mother Nature gently whispers her intentions each day. Notice the subtle seasonal changes around you to connect with nature, deepen your understanding of the world, and stay in tune with Earth's rhythms. Seasonal blessings,
